Creating Our Reality

We (or at least a lot of us) have heard of the law of attraction and the book and film called The Secret - it's interesting stuff... it got me thinking about the amount of time I (and my closest friend) spend playing on PC games and Internet games like Farmville (which recently won an award as a social gaming site) and the fact that the games offer us a means of creating a new, virtual reality for ourselves. They allow us to dream and to form a reality around those dreams - pretty cool stuff. The question I have been pondering from a negative angle, was whether or not these 'virtual realities' that we create could act as a means of blocking us from achieving our desires. For example, if we're playing Sims and creating a new home for our Sims family, based around our personal desires for a new home, does this mean that the Universe will see us as having achieved that desire - the new home has after all manifested itself, albeit in a virtual fashion.. Thinking about i...

Who moved my cheese and the fear of failure..

Every week is an interesting one at the moment. The global economic crisis (or GEC as it is now being labelled) has affected almost everyone on the planet one way or another. It reminded me of the fact that the fear of not being in control can be our achilles heel. That fear of not being able to control the events in our lives can often be related to a fear of failure, especially when other people around us are moving things in a direction that makes us feel uncomfortable or out of our depth - the book 'Who moved my cheese' is a good one to pick up if you suffer from this phobia. More often than not, the people or changes to our lives that we most fear are the ones who can and will give us the most benefit, they are the ones that get us up off our butts and actually help us to 'shine', they are the ones that stretch us and help us to grow. In my life, these people and events are characterised by a feeling of fear, immense fear - they have on a couple of occasions brou...

Getting organised

In times like today, with change happening unexpectedly, we all find ourselves wondering how we are going to handle the things that are altering - we have all heard the words of Charles Darwin on the fact that for a species to survive it has to adapt .. if only it were that easy? Well maybe it is. Recent changes for me, that were outside my control, left me standing still - possum in the headlights (or bunny if you're not from round here!) kind of wondering what was going on .. then frustration set in (who moved my cheese - which by the way is an interesting book if you havn't read it) then a bit of panic and finally tiredness. So I slapped myself on the arse and set about restructuring and reorganising the way I handled my businesses and my cash and after a few hours I managed to find a recipe that not only kept me moving forwards, but which also created opportunities that were not there (or which I had not noticed) before.. the result, well it's cool - yes, handling the c...

That was the week ...

I remembered today that I used to be a regular contributor to the Press business supplement in Christchurch, and this week has been one of tumultuous change for me for a variety of reasons. The business environment is difficult, and people all over the world are learning (quickly) how to deal with change. I no longer write for The Press, nor anyone else at the moment for that matter, and looking back at the road I used to travel when I lived in Christchurch I am quite taken aback by the support that I had from so many people and by the fortune that I enjoyed as a result - not monetary fortune, personal feel good fortune. The change that has occurred for me these past two weeks has set me back on a path I know, a road that I remember like one of those side roads you pop down in a town you know but havn't been back to for a few years. So maybe that writing thing will come back - it is fun, and with it the fortune that I remember. So, if you're reading this, if it helps, change is...

Existence

Consider this - there is only one moment, that is now, and that you are an eternal spirit. Consider the things in your life that repeat themselves, or appear to - deja vu is one example, another are the things that happen to us, the reality that we create for ourselves - the 'lessons' we learn through experiences that often appear uncannily similar from one year to the next, we all appear often cycle through them more than once, as that is part of a learning process .. then let go of the belief that 'time'exists - no past, no future, just now - what is happening is that we are constantly changing the past through interracting with our reality , which after all is made up of matter that is constantly in motion, our perception is that we are travelling through time, that there is a past and a future ... wel maybe there isn't as such, sure our physical state changes as we get older, - detach yourself from that physical state and consider what you doing now - you are le...

Influence - again...

To walk our own path under the influence of others... Or to walk a path on our own ... Is there a difference? Does it matter? How does the mind manage influencers? Why do influencers cause us to change path? How much does instinct and gut feeling impact?

Reflections

We all often reflect on what is going on in our lives and the lives of others. We sometimes change our course in the light of what we see in others actions and words. I guess there is always a danger that we reflect and end up thinking too much about stuff. I do. A couple of very old commentaries have helped me with this.... What happened to you should have happened because it did…and no wishing can make it any different. Wishing reality to be different from what it is is like teaching a cat to bark. Learn to wish that everything should come to pass exactly as it does Catch u

Self Belief

Self belief is at the heart of success. Without it, success can evade us. At this time in my life, I am going through internal change and I am beginning to realise that this change is centred around (1) self belief (2) feelings relating to past rejection and (3) my misinterpretation of others feelings, desires and needs. Clearing these issues is not easy; it is interesting to see how positive thinking helps. Seeing things in a different light - reframing our perceptions and beliefs, appreciating the value of love and most importantly love of self is key. Not egotistical stuff, rather respect, passion and friendship for ourselves. In my mind, rejection is a personal thing, and the feeling that we have or are letting ourselves down (because maybe in the past we have been subjected to rejection which has translated into a lack of self worth) is at the heart of it. Life's journey is amazing - the journey towards self discovery; enjoy the ride!

Speed of change

Consider a racing car - consider how it turns, and how important it is to plan in advance of that turn; get the racing line wrong and you will not take the turn at optimum speed; brake too late and you will run wide or spin; break too early and you will lose ground. Knowing the corner helps. Knowing and responding to the track conditions helps. Having the right car set up (by your team) helps. Now apply these thoughts to your business.
