The rich are now obscenely so, and we ask ourselves ‘who really needs to be a billionaire’? The corporate juggernaut Goliath barrels its way along the highway, smashing any who look anything like David with his slingshot, worried of the impact on their mission for global domination.

The average wage for the average Joe Worker doing a 40 hour week, (packing more in now than ever before thanks to the wonders of the internet) is not a lot. We travel faster, we receive information and send information.. faster, we do more in less time. Is the average Joe Worker better off for living the dream and buying their first car, or saving for their first house with all the furniture and trimmings…(noting the fact that it is likely that a significant proportion of their deposit will come from their parents, who now provide some 40% of the lending to newbie owners)..

The issue isn’t just confined to families looking to support their future generations. Sport used to be a release from the toil of daily work. Joe Worker plays for his local team every Saturday before heading off to watch the Arsenal. His best mate is into rugby, his other mate into Formula One.. Sport is inherently human, but unfortunately over the last two decades, it too has circumed to the invasive weed that is corporate investment, investment designed to boost Company earnings through extracting more of Joe Worker’s hard earned cash through advertising and social media designed to ‘hook’ him in… on Monday he returns to work and sets about wondering whether he has been fooled into joining the rat race as he steps back onto the hamster wheel.

Back to rugby … this year the NZ Rugby Football Union sold a not insignificant % of the All Blacks brand to a media Company.. last year Formula One sold itself to an American .. yes you guessed it, media Company who proceeded to Americanise the sport by bringing in new rules and making the cars all look the same, to boost audiences, eliminating the technological wonder that F1 used to bring every season - no wonder half the tech geeks at F1 teams are now designing racing yachts to get their kicks. Americans like their Motorsport to be simpler, they wouldn’t understand the old F1 would they?

And then there is the role of the TV umpire .. another clever way to entice viewers to watch more as Joe Worker watches the last infringement on YouTube 5 times (with adverts)… and then decides to buy a new pair of football boots on special.. as the internet trackers ‘read his mind’.

So after all is said and done, where next for Joe Worker. One can’t help thinking life hasn’t changed since the Pharoahs … the have and have nots … history repeats itself ~ billionaires, the new lords and ladies of the manor .. There have to be Joe Workers, as after all someone has to work don’t they.. but isn’t the balance of wealth spiralling out of control .. the planet sure as hell isn’t happy with the way things are going and neither should we be.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8372449.post-63878378554788528642022-04-02T08:45:00.004+13:002022-04-02T13:23:29.849+13:00Press Pause

There is one thing that doesn’t change - the passage of time. The earth continues to rotate around the sun, bringing the planet to life. Everything living exists over a period of time.

My favourite moments in life are two-fold.

The first are times when I am immersed in something that I love doing - so much so that time becomes flow.

The second are times when I ‘stop the clock’ and stay in the moment, relaxed and at peace - just being.

I think the latter wins out, and over the years I have taught myself how to push the pause button - empty my thoughts, turn off the internal chatter and stop. The sand through the neck for 30 minutes when set. The history of timekeeping dates back to ancient civilisations watching the stars and planets to make decisions on when to sow and reap, when to hunt and gather. In mathematical terms, time can be defined as the ongoing and continuous sequence of events that occur in succession from the past to the present to the future, measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years.

Our lives are driven by time. We work to get things done on time - what people are paid to work is based on time and the 40 hour working week. We sleep and wake according to the time of day or night. We allocate time for work and play. We share our time with others. We manage our interactions with others based on time. Some say that all we are born with is time.

But, isn’t time a human construct? Is there any ‘time’? There are seasons, there are cycles driven by our location in the universe. Our lives are transient - we are born, we live a life and then we pass away as life goes on.

Is time a thing? Or is it an invention created by man to manage work and provide impetus to manage our activity? When you are on holiday and unwinding, time becomes far less relevant. We are still active but we care much less about the time of day or night.

According to theoretical physicist, Carlo Rovelli, time is an illusion: our naive perception of it’s flow doesn’t correspond to physical reality… he posits that reality is a complex network of events into which we project sequences of past, present and future. Einstein stated ‘people like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.

As we age, the relativity of time takes on a new look. A day seems far shorter than as a child. I go to bed, fall asleep and almost in an instant I am awake and climbing into the new day.

Does time really matter?

Is it time for new thinking to take humanity beyond this stubborn illusion. Is it time for society to re-think how we live and how we support one another with activity and outcomes as a focus rather than time..

The sands of time keep flowing after all..

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8372449.post-72141773463341539962021-10-07T19:56:00.002+13:002022-04-02T13:24:03.338+13:00Vision

Do you ever get that sense that something is coming towards you, that the inevitable is around the next corner. To our young children everything is interesting - there don't appear to be any 'boring bits' at all, especially when it comes to food and eating. Life should be like that - no boring bits. Yes, occasionally we are doing things we do not relish doing, occasionally we are doing things for others, when we could be doing things for ourselves. It isn't often that I do anything that I really dislike doing, in fact sitting here now, I can't actually think of anything .. (other than maybe going to the dentist to have a filling...).

Our lives are full of choices about what we do. For some people, others decide for them - for others they decide for themselves. In the end, does what we do matter provided we do it for ourselves or to benefit others?
Influence over another person is something that everyone seeks to achieve. From a child seeking to persuade their parents to head to the biscuit tin, to politicians attempting to swing voters in their direction. Everybody does it.

Our behaviour and actions are influenced by other people every day of our lives. Sometimes, we do not even know that we are being targeted or influenced. By and large we all 'hear' other people's views and opinions, and so, arguably are we all always heard? At the same time (not unusually for me) I have about 4 or 5 books on the go, one of which is a study on 'chaos', and another is about the meta-physical or spiritual aspects of our lives drawing on Jung's theories.

There is so much written about who we are, what we are, where we came from and where we are going. All the religious texts in the world focus on similar questions to these. Whole professions exist to help us try to understand questions like the 'ultimate question' as Douglas Adams put it in his fantastic Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe, - 'what is the answer to life, the universe and everything?'

In the end we start from nothing, and we go on to being a small pile of minerals which, whilst we are alive, is held together by a lot of water molecules.

Another way to look at it is from the perspective that we are simply pure energy. Everything in life dips energy. Energy never completely dissipates, it is transferred from one place to another. Human beings come into the world as energy and when we leave this world that energy passes into the earth or the atmosphere depending on whether we are buried or cremated .. The energy goes full circle. If we take out the fact that we are all always trying to work out where we a going and what we are doing, you suddenly realize that it doesn't actually matter - we are energy and movers and shakers of energy, applying it where we best see fit to help others and ourselves achieve the things we aspire to achieve.

Many believe that we are one collective energy, all of us connected in some way, and if you pause and think about it, that makes absolute sense.. Our bodies are a vehicle for that energy to work it's magic..
It is quiet, there is a full moon, and Amelie my 3 year old princess has just run into the sitting room and said N Niiiight, kissed me on the cheek, given me a hug and bounced off to her bedroom for a story ... She gets distracted by the pieces on a chess board as she goes, 'this one here, that one there' .... Ammeeeliiee, her mum calls - oh oh she says and toddles off to hear the story.

There is a clock ticking close by, the lighting in the sitting room is soft, it is peaceful.

How lucky to be here - how lucky to have the simple things in life laid out before me, no hassle, no complexity, no need to think, no need to relax, I can just be.

We do make our lives complicated sometimes don't we - more often than not because we desire or want something, or someone to do what we want them to do, or maybe things just aren't going how we envisaged.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8372449.post-63207573537020735302013-08-27T10:13:00.002+12:002013-08-27T10:15:34.362+12:00Moving fast, moving slow and getting stuff done

You know that feeling you get sometimes when you feel that things are just as they should be? It's an unprompted feeling and sense that everything is happening around you in the right order and at the right moment. I liken it to a combination of belief, awareness and intuition.

Sometimes in life we push, we push hard to get stuff done, to make things happen and at other times we do nothing and let things happen by themselves. It seems to be a fine balance and one that we can influence and maintain as we wax and wane through life. When we know what we want and where it is we are going, this balance gets easier and simpler to feel and see.

If you have ever been involved in marketing or sales you will understand the notion that very often, you will push hard and put energy into certain opportunities to sell your product or service, and then find that those sales that you secure often come from 'out of the blue' as a result of your extended networks or a gesture by somebody who knows and likes what you have to offer to a third party. Before you know it, if what you are doing is right, it snowballs as others get to hear about you and seek you out.

Being in the right place at the right time and maintaining a positive outlook, despite all the trouble life seems to be throwing at you sometimes, is all part of that - putting yourself in the right position and having the common sense to look at what is going on around you and approaching things with this in mind...

Keep smiling and let that feeling wash through you whenever it comes
Happy Christmas to those who have arrived here to read this post.

The world and the media remind us often that Christmas is a time for giving, for compassion, for family, for celebrating Jesus and for receiving.

It is also a time when we reflect on the past year - what has occurred and happened in our lives and where we have come.

The New Year beckons and we begin to look forward to the positive changes that we desire, our aspirations and hopes for the future. We want to feel better in ourselves, and have an improved world with less stress, anxiety and suffering.

Looking forwards is a powerful thing. It provides us with the ability to consider what may be, as we journey into the unknown. It enables us to work out where we would like things to go. In the animal kingdom, I expect we are one of very very few species that have this ability to look out over long periods of time. Other animals will look forwards I expect season by season, if that. They concentrate on the present.

Being present in the present (which funnily enough is a gift) is a powerful thing. Resting and being in that space between thoughts, where there is no past and no future, is very empowering and serene. If you journey there just for a moment on a regular basis, you learn to embrace it with both arms. We learn that in reality, the present is actually all that there is. We accept it for what it is and this brings peace and serenity.

Perhaps if we all concentrated on the present and what we have,
If we forgot to think about what we want and desire for the future,
If we accepted that the past is history,
If we all took these three simple steps....
Perhaps if we all did this at Christmas time, Christmas would truly be what the world and the media does not remind us - a time for us all to be one.

Namaste
From small beginnings... This is a phrase that I often latch on to. After all everything has to start somewhere. The seed of an idea has to be planted before the seed can develop. Nothing can be generated from nothing..

This week I have been sorting few several problems at work, problems that all stemmed from something small. An assumption about something that turned out to be incorrect was the common denominator. This got me thinking about how catastrophic events can stem from one small act, and how delicate we sometimes have to be when we make a judgement or decision about something. Like snow gathering on an acorn rolled down a slope, things can quickly escalate.

The key observation that came out of the problem solving actually relates not to the seed or the person making the assumption, but rather what happens when others who put you in a position of authority rely on your judgement and assumption to take things forward... The snowball moves faster and gets larger and larger. Eventually it can become unstoppable until it hits a wall and things disintegrate.

So from now on, I am focusing on the small things

Moments of clarity bring us serenity and peace, as we see the wood for the trees, or we uncover the meaning of the events in our lives. Clarity brings with it trust, that we are on the right path, that we are in tune with the people and events in our lives. Clarity is a very personal thing. Clarity gives us flow and the ability to glide.
Confusion slows us down, and is characterized by feelings of uncertainty and chaos. Confusion often conjures up negative energy and feelings. We often struggle through confusion, or we resist or reject it. In reality confusion is an essential part of all of us. Without it, paradoxically there would be no moments of clarity.
In recent times, I have noticed again now the influence of other people can profoundly influence feelings of confusion and clarity. A focus on confusion is often created by feelings that relate to people in our lives or events that occur that alter our journey for reasons we do not understand.
In recent times, clarity has become a human condition for me. Clarity always exists. Nothing we think changes the clarity in our lives, it is the way we think about things that changes our perception of clarity. Lack of clarity has something to do with the way we are wired, the thought process we individually follow, and confusion is simply our way of trying to establish clarity. An internal communication process drives feelings of clarity and confusion and clarity can be a state of mind, nothing more, nothing less. We can choose clarity above confusion by simply accepting events and circumstances. Acceptance .. Yes, that is clarity is it not?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8372449.post-16032517581842384742011-12-12T21:12:00.000+13:002011-12-12T21:12:33.773+13:00Helping others - a special talent we all possessEverybody has a talent. Something that they can do which sets them apart from other people. This talent doesn't have to be anything out of the ordinary or world beating, it doesn't have to be something completely unique. It can be as simple as enjoying grooming an animal, painting landscapes, knitting or even talking to a friend over a cup of coffee and the ability to sit quietly and listen to their life's events.

These talents are gifts and they all have one thing in common. That is, every talent possessed by everybody in the world, in some way, shape or form, helps others - be they human, animal or even nature herself.

We all have a choice in life. Whether to use the talent (or talents!) we each have, to help others. Most of us recognize this at some point in our lives and enjoy the pleasure we experience when we have made someone's day a little better.

For me, enabling people to move in a direction that they choose and desire, that helps them achieve what they wish to achieve to gain internal satisfaction - this is a gift which draws on a number of talents. Self actualisation is just what it says, actualisation of the self ... The thing is that achieving that state will almost invariably involve interaction with others and the receiving of their help through the talents that they possess.

So, today, share some of your talents - and be grateful that you have them..
The first step is having unfailing belief that our aspirations will happen, and the second is a focus or intention that sees us through to those aspirational goals. Often that is all we need, belief and intention. Deepak Chopra talks of desire and intention in the same way. Aspirations are equivalent to desires, albeit that desire has a different connotation and meaning to aspiration...

Then we exert effort and energy in an attempt to steer our lives towards our goals.

It is interesting how life assists us along this journey. Life pushes us and pulls us this way and that, often in directions that seem so far from our perception of the direction we should be going in, that we feel tension and frustration... More often that not though, the belief carries us through, provided we aspire to things that are right for us and for the world .. It is then that we enter the flow of life, and the pushing and pulling subsides..

As someone who often pushes and pulls very hard, take my advice, don't waste too much energy .. Let the aspiration appear in front of you through belief and intent.
Apart from having sore legs and feeling fitter as a result, I was struck by the beautiful colours around me.

Here in New Zealand it is Autumn, the rains have begun, and the sun, when low, brings out the most incredible greens and browns. The grass was stunning and so green. I stopped in my tracks and looked around at the colour. I looked at nothing else, just colours and how inspiring it was!

Rather than registering what I was looking at, I just saw the colours of what I saw.

When I got home, I realized how much of our beautiful world we take for granted. Normally we spend our time running around looking at things, people, landscapes, views - we do not look at the colours..they are just there. Colour is always present, and when something is always present, we often overlook it.

Have a look around you and spot the colour in your life!

I am getting some personal coaching from Raechel. She is an internationally reknowned coach (amongst other things) and has travelled the globe learning her art. She is special, and I am very fortunate to have her as my coach.

Today we set about goal setting - drawing on our previous discussions and the vision I created for the future to establish tangible and achievable objectives for the coming years. Together, we explored previous conversations and coaching sessions to create a timeline and clear measurable goals for my life to come. For many, going through such an exercise can be very threatening, uncomfortable and confusing. Many people are offered coaching and decline because of the fear that this creates.

Coaching is about having someone else help you to understand yourself, your world and the choices before you. Yes, these can often create internal tension, insecurity and fear. In reality this emotional response seems to me to be a response to change or potential change, particularly when our subconscious (which desires the change to create growth) is not aligned with our physical conscious self (that enjoys stability and security). This response to change is accentuated where other people have imposed their ideals, beliefs or desires 'into' our own thinking - creating points of reference within us that create doubt in our intuitive selves. To adapt, we have to divorce ourselves from these references and recognise how other people are influencing our behaviour and decisions, before we can move forward. And, you know, quite often you will find that once you have done this, it is your intuition and subconscious that has the magic answer to your decisions and choices.

We are then free to set our own (and I mean YOUR OWN) goals and objectives and create the opportunities that ultimately lead to self actualisation and success. We are moved along, into the flow... and before we know it, we are expressing thankfulness and gratitude for what we ourselves, the universe and those around us, have provided - abundance really is there... for all of us.

Have a fantastic day, and thank you for taking the time to read my blog - for that, I am very grateful! :)
At 400m across and the same size lengthways, it is a pretty big thing. That got me thinking about the moon and its' influence on our world. Doing a little research shows that our moon, whilst sitting quietly glowing upon us at night in an unassuming manner, our moon actually commands a lot of influence.

The moon influences the magnetic fields on the Earth, thereby affecting the tides (http://www.astronomytoday.com/astronomy/earthmoon.html). It draws all sorts of wildlife towards it, especially moths - I don't know why (let me know). Apparently it also has an effect on winds. The weblink above talks to us also about the collision of a large mass with the Earth long long ago and it's effect on the moon's influence over us. I wonder if the asteroid heading our way will create any change for our planet.

On a more subtle level, the moon also seems to affect our moods. It certainly does mine, and I am not entirely sure why .. on a full moon I always seem to go into a strange mood, somewhat peculiar and odd - nothing too scary or weird, just a little peculiar. I put it down also to the fact that we are all affected by the phases of the moon - it somehow influences us, and the cycles and rhythms that we live with every day. For me a full moon signifies a period of calm chaos and it is not a time to make big decisions.

I like the moon, it has a peace about it that is both comforting and special. I wonder how its' influence on us will change as time passes by.
A change in global consciousness. They explained to me that this is a change in thinking and being, within us all and the world around us. It can be seen as a rebalancing of both the physical and metaphysical realms...a new reality which refocuses us on who we really are and why we are here. Quite deep stuff..

Recently in Christchurch, reiki has been used to help many people to overcome the mental trauma experienced following the earthquakes. It is a skill that we all possess within us and that is gaining in popularity. Whilst there remain many skeptics, there are clear benefits that arise for those practicing, and those receiving reiki. One of the simplest of these is rebalancing - reiki results in a meditative state of being that helps people to rest at both the physical and mental level. It also touches the metaphysical or spiritual level within us.

Last week, in addition to a weekly reiki learning session I also had some personal coaching, part of a five session coaching programme. Put these two things (reiki and personal coaching) together and boy, does your mind go into a spin. Last week felt as though my mind had been picked up and placed (carefully) into a soft bag and then thrown up in the air as my reiki master and coach (two separate people) had some fun playing catch with it. I was thrown completely off balance, into a state of chaos and confusion that saw me stop dead. All my beliefs, my work and past experiences were shaken out of me and I was left in quite an uncomfortable state, and I knew there was no going back.

Then I had a further coaching session and well, this was fascinating. In the space of two hours I suddenly realized that my consciousness had been shifted. I mean really shifted. My whole being had changed. I felt fresh, new, free and at peace with myself.

I had gone from a fairly stable state, into a state of utter confusion and chaos and then into serenity.

This was fascinating because without that state of chaos and confusion, I would never have shifted from the stability that had existed .. my soul and my mind had been given a massive shake and kick to shift forward, beyond my previous state. I had created an environment and series of events (reiki and coaching) which would literally shift me forwards on the journey of self actualisation. I needed that shift.

The world is no different in my mind. The planet is in a state of constant motion and this includes periods of sudden shift, when the world feels the need to move or change. And then, as the saying goes there is always calm after the storm.

So if you feel like you could be spinning your wheels or stuck in old patterns, find a way to shake up your old thoughts and belief patterns - and see what happens ... but hey, please make sure you have someone guiding you through the chaos. There has never been a better time for reflection, particularly if a new wave of consciousness is indeed occurring.

Until next time.
Another quake in Tonga today. The earth truly is on the move. Until a few weeks ago, 2011 in New Zealand was ticking over quite nicely. The economy stirring from the doldrums, the weather sunny and warm the whole summer through, and the kids had all gone back to school. People had returned to work after the annual 'month off' and everyone had started to get excited about the Rugby World Cup.

Then another earthquake struck Christchurch killing many people, injuring others and causing more devastation than this small country has never seen. I doubt that anyone living in New Zealand is completely unaffected. This, just after Christchurch had picked itself up, dusted off it's shoulders and started to rebuild.

My thoughts are with all those affected people and families. The City is shattered. Go well. Christchurch is an outstanding place and community and the City will flourish again.

Quakes are symptoms of imbalance. Imbalance within the Earth's crust. On the phone to my sister in the UK, she was quite distressed about us over here. She then went on to tell me a recent news story about some scientists who have uncovered a way to drill into the Earth to extract hot water which can be used as a power source. That got me thinking.

For GOODNESS sake, when are the human race going to stop messing with this beautiful World of ours? Everything seeks balance, and nothing demonstrates this more than mother nature and earthquakes. We humans are pretty good at molesting mother nature - extract everything and anything we can use, and replacing very very little. Isn't it about time we started to think about the impacts of taking?

Removing hot water from within the Earth has to create imbalance, if only to increase the temperature beneath us and create voids full of what one asks? If the water is the Earth's cooling system, then the Earth's radiator cap is going to have to blow at some point, isn't it?

Whilst we cannot control the tragic events in Christchurch, we can all have an impact on how we care for our planet, and the imbalances that we are creating.

Keep safe
The things that happen, the events that occur and how you react or respond to them helps to shape who you are and where you are going.

Sometimes we react against things, fighting against what we believe and consider to be wrong, inappropriate or unsuitable. Typically, this reaction relates to things that have been, or that have occured. Sometimes it also relates to things and events that are on the horizon, pending or about to occur.

In traditional psychology, pundits talk of 'flight or fight' as a response to things that affect or are likely to affect us in a 'bad' way - there is no obvious space here for doing nothing and simply accepting things as they are.

Acceptance often brings peace of mind, no matter what the situation. Provided you are able to see fear for what it is, acceptance helps you to breathe. When you breathe, you often find that you can see things more clearly, there is more clarity about what is going on. As a result, you are able to consider what is happening in a better way, free of anxiety, panic and fear....then maybe the decisions you make on how to handle the situation you are in are better..

Sure, once you have passed that feeling of acceptance, the decisions you then make on the issue may involve reacting to the issue in front of you, and not accepting things as they are.

However, in that single moment of acceptance, you will find that your mind will settle and that you will reach a decision far more appropriate than a decision made without it.

See you soon
